All You Need To Know About Artificial Intelligence In Schools

Witnessing the attributes of Artificial Intelligence, it is significant to introduce and leverage them in educational institutions so that our children can quickly work with the technology efficiently in the future.
Introducing Artificial Intelligence in schools will help the children to close the digital skill gaps in early stage itself. AI should be adopted in the core curriculum as it helps them prepare for the future.

When we think of Artificial Intelligence (AI), immediately our mind conceives the picture of a high-tech machine looking like a human with nuts, bolts, and its mind as a human brain.
But, AI, in reality, is nothing but a backend algorithm which programs a machine to extend or emulate the human behavior or the actions.
It is capable of analyzing the vast amounts of data and research for the possible patterns to classify the gained information and make predictions. Also, the feedback loop facilitates the software to modify its approach based on the conclusions drawn by previous data input. It can perform tasks accurately and at a faster rate.
Artificial Intelligence has already ingrained into many of the life activities and is anticipated to influence the working and home life to a greater extent in the future. As it will become the norm of a day, it is high time that we talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in schools.
“When it comes to equipping our youngest children for a world where AI will be enormously influential in their working lives and at home, the vast majority of our schools aren’t even at first base yet,” says Professor Rose Luckin of University College London’s Institute of Education.
Artificial Intelligence is necessary for schools to close the technology skill gap. Though the technology is not exploited to its fullest at school levels, the youngsters must be facilitated to experiment with the system. Our young children must be equipped to enter the workforce.
The simple systems like setting up the Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, or the Apple’s Siri capable of answering the questions posed by the students like simple maths calculation, general knowledge questions, would create wonders in the young minds.
So, what’s in the news?

Artificial Intelligence in News, Educational Sector

Artificial intelligence in U.S. education will grow by 47.5% from 2017-2021 according to the Artificial Intelligence Market in the US Education Sector report.
The UK-based company contracts for mathematics tutors for educating children of nearly 4000 British primary schools.
The Third Space Learning company is utilizing the AI software to enhance the teaching practices of 300 tutors in its global network.
It is accepted that the teachers cannot be replaced, but, there is a need for a change in the educational best practices. The growing trend does not mean that AI is replacing the teachers. But, it is indeed an AI -Teacher collaboration leading to fruitful education and its processes for the children’s future.
Let us see how AI and teachers can collaborate.

AI and Teachers Collaboration:

AI can never be the substitute for the human element to form the mainstream education. The human is crucial and not the algorithms. However, it could be used as secondary sources of data and as a hands-on role for formal instructions.

The research supports for pedagogical agents to promote effective instruction by designing a classroom-based personality. They may take up the role of addressing absenteeism, act as triggers for language instruction, deliver support for the learners, promote creativity, and provide solutions for problems.
In brief, AI can be used in collaboration with the teachers to:
  • Enhance the teaching practices
  • As a valuable tool for the educator
  • Analyze the student’s progress
  • Optimize the personalized learnings
  • Simplify the administration process
  • Choreograph dances to repeat
  • Mundane duties to lessen the time
  • Individualized learning and curriculum
  • Enhance collaborative learning
  • Enact as an intelligent moderator

In a nutshell, There are many ways to use AI in education and it is bound to create an impact in the education field. And, the days to see a Robo amidst the students’ group in every school is not very far.
It supplements the human resources and it is the right time to take advantage of the collaboration between human beings and automated machines.
However, the children will sit in the classrooms in the same way as today and will be under the guidance of a human teacher.
